What's the last movie you saw and was it good?

I saw Madame Web and it's certainly a movie I'm glad I didn't go into the movie theaters to see. I got to see it on Netflix.

The last film I watched was Igor - this adorable animated flick about a henchman trying to become the greatest evil mastermind of all time. He is joined by a giant zombie woman who desperately wants to become an actor, a brain in a jar who's ironically a huge moron, and a suicidal immortal rabbit played by Steve Buscemi.

On top of being genuinely hilarious, the film had a huge passion for classic horror. One character, Jaclyn, has the ability to transform into different people, including a girl named Hydie. Why? Just so that the writers could make this joke:

"Hmm... Jacyln, Hydie, Jekyll and Hydie..."

That is the most intelligent reference to Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde I've ever heard. Anyway, I adore this movie. It's a shame it only earned 30 million at the box office, based on a 25 mil budget. It's just such a sweet, fun film that you won't be able to hate 😭

The last new-to-me movie I saw was The Prestige. It wasn't bad, and did a better job adapting the book than I'd've thought possible, but a LOT got excluded, and it pretty radically changed the overall tone.

As is typical of book to movie adaptations. “Fight Club” was a good book and a great movie, but there are definitely some details in the book that i think would have made the movie more interesting.
Conversely, i would have found the entire “Lord of the Rings” trilogy more palatable if they had left out some of the unnecessary details.

@Chazmatazz269 Well, they were trying to be VERY thorough, and even then, they screwed Denethor over; turning the guy whose will was too strong for even SAURON to break, requiring him to instead show him the incredible power at his (Sauron's) disposal, driving him into hopelessness-induced despair, didn't sit well with me, since it made Denethor into a raving nut, and Sauron look less like an evil genius and more like a rampaging bully.

No idea. I haven't watch a movie since 2019. The movies I did watch in 2019 weren't good. The industry is pushing woke propaganda so I don't even waste my time anymore looking for potentially good movies.

I saw “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” last Sunday. It was alright. Unless you’re a super fan of the franchise, i would recommend most people wait to watch it at home rather than pay theater prices.
I just watched what is apparently the first film of a series, “Rebel Moon”, on Nerdflix. It’s a decent sci-fi fantasy type flick. Good enough to watch the next one because i have a hangup about closure. Ell oh ell!

I watched Barbie yesterday with my daughter. It had lots of female talking points in it and they largely held it together in a coherent manner and was reasonable spirited despite a tenancy to lecture.

But it wasn't aimed at me, no idea why the Ken actor won an award for this, and didn't find it engaging. Better than Mamma Mia though (which was dreadful).

And we had plenty to talk about afterwards and throughout so.. bonding time maybe.

Tarot (2024) in an empty cinema/theatre that I paid my ticket. I for one was grateful to finally experience a movie all to myself, unexpectedly. And also, wow, check out that movie. It's decent enough. Harsh reviews are just that.
