I have- and it is indeed and excellent movie. So is Stand By Me, which was adapted from The Body, in the same book as "Shawshank". "Apt Pupil", adapted from "Apt Pupil", also in that book, is good, too, but more existentially horrifying. And it has Nazi Ian McKellan, so hey, bonus points.

Interestingly, when word went around that "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" was being adapted into a movie, the studio apparently got lots of calls from agents saying they represented actresses who'd be perfect for Rita; if you've seen the movie, you know why that's probably not true.

A very enjoyable movie. Well acted and inspiring. Another inspiring prison movie I recommend is an oldie... check out Cool Hand Luke. You may enjoy it. Funny prison and inspiring do not usually go well together lol

It’s an excellent film and it should be, for being number one in the IMDB list. I really like the untangling/resolution in the ending.
