Are the Naruto movies canon?

If they aren’t then they’re pointless and I won’t even bother. Since Demon Slayer just finished season 4 and My Hero Academia is taking centuries to put out the dubs, I think I’ll return to Naruto and finally finish it. I don’t remember if I even got through half of season 1.

Is it actually horrible? I never even finished the original series so there was never a reason for me to check that out. I’m rewatching it now though since Demon Slayer S4 just finished, MHA is taking centuries to release the dubs, and DBS anime still hasn’t made a return.

I would not say it is horrible... it is just that Naruto was way too good, so the Boruto series fails in comparison, the group of writers are different creators, so they definitely dumbed down the series...

one of the best "mini-arcs" in Naruto was Haku and Zabuza introduction... that's not something you will find matched for Boruto characters and story line

I don't think so, there's even a bunch of filler episodes that they threw into the anime that aren't in the manga. Some of them are quite good others are pretty flat. I didn't watch the movies so I can't tell you much, but you don't need to watch them to get the full story.
