Hi, I'm writing a film in which a friend has the power to go back in time but passes his abilities to his friend to become immortal. I need a good reason for why he does this. One reason is that he fears death. I just need another really cool reason.

Could be the specter of death is chasing him across time and thus he tricks it by gifting his powers to his freind so it chases his freind and forgets his existence thus making him neigh immortal

Or he could have tried to break into a lab developing immortality for a future world leader but just barely failed. He has learned from his mistakes but the lab would instantly recognise him instantly making a second attempt a guaranteed failure thus he needs his freind to break in and get it for the both of them.
