What is your favorite video game?

I was in my late teens/early 20s during "The Golden Age of Video Games". Back then, we played on standalone machines in arcades or, as the machines spread, in places of business: restaurants, supermarkets, hotels, etc.

I became excellent at Asteroids. My high score is 1,239,870. I was 130 points away from getting an extra life which you got at every 10,000 points. The designers of Asteroids, Atari, never anticipated humans would become so good at the game, so the maximum high score displayable was 99,990. So, if you were good like me, you had to mentally keep track of how many times you "turned the machine over". So, as you can see from my high score, I turned the machine over 12 times. IIRC, it took me about 2.5 to 3.5 hours playing at my local A&P supermarket (*) to get that score. I think this was during my senior year in high school, 1980-1981.

(*) Sometimes my mom would say we need milk. So, I'd volunteer to go to the A&P and she might not see me for over an hour. Put 1 quarter in the machine and play the entire time...

Diving into virtual worlds can be a lot of fun! 🎮 Since I have a soft spot for art, story, and character design, my favorite video game would have to be *The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild*. FFX is probably it, easy to get into, still holds up today, and does everything well... except maybe dialogue at times.
