Do you more actively listen to music when playing vinyl LPs?

After quite a large number of years of simply clicking on music that I've wanted to hear from digital sources, tonight I had cause to put on a few of my older vinyl LPs.
I found that I was much more engaged in actually paying attention to the music, rather than the music just being "on" when listening to music from digital sources.

Whether it had to do with my having to get up off of my dead ass in order to start the LP and to have to then get up again after 18 to 20 minutes to flip the LP over to hear the second side was instrumental in my paying more attention to the music or not, I'm not sure, but I think that may be a big reason for my greater appreciation of my vinyl LP music.

I would, except that I don't have most of it here nor do I have anything here to play it on. It's all been in storage since Dec. `19. But, I took a kind of preservatory approach to my massive collection back in the mid `80's. Buy it, record it to tape and only listen to the tape from then on unless I needed to make another recording of it.
At the moment, I've got thousands of 45's to listen to and archive.
Actually, I can go back to about `79, maybe winter `78. I bought my first stereo cassette deck when I was working at Cedar Point, summer `78 and, within the next year, decided to archive all the 78's I could get my hands on to cassette. About 10 years later, I decided to do the same with my 45's to open reel tapes. Sadly, the only tape I could find that didn't cost over $20 a reel was the stuff Radio Shuck sold for about $2.00 a reel. Within about a year, they started jacking up the price and selling shittier tape!! About 10 years later, after painstakingly recording well over 100 reels, I bought a CD recorder and decided to go that way, instead. One day, I tried to convert a tape to CD. About 15:00 in, a squeal started to appear and, as the tape played, it got louder and louder until, suddenly, the tape just stopped playing! Upon inspection of the issue, I discovered that the oxide on the tape was melting onto the tape heads, causing the squeal, and then, it built up so much that it glued itself to the tape and the tape would no longer play!! All those hundreds of hours of meticulous work and all that money on tape and splicing tape, out the fucking window!! So, I had to start all over again onto CD's. And, at least, with that, once converted to WAV or MP3, I could easily inject new stuff into the running order any time or place in the order I liked! (I was recording them in alpha-numeric order according to label so, if I recorded all the Epics that I had and then picked up a few more, I could record those, MP3 or WAV them and inject them into the Epic series where they belonged, according to the record numbers.) I got about 30 or 40 CD's done when life took me away from that and then I got kicked out of MY house 5 years ago and had to move here where I don't have access to any of that stuff. It's all in storage 2 miles from here or, I'd have been working on it all this time!!
But, yeah, I'd much rather play records than digital. You get to learn more about what you've got, who pressed it, which copy you've got and you get to watch the label go around and, it's a more hands-on approach. AND, you get warmer, better sound than the sterile, almost painful because of its sterility, sound you get from digital. Most of my "digital" stuff was recorded from the original records in my collection!!

In a slightly different vein, I've been noticing that, records I used to listen to a lot back in the `70's and `80's and haven't touched since then, when I hear them now, I can't see what all the fuss was! Back then, they were super cool! Now, I can't even see what attracted me to buy them! I heard all the Styx albums about a year ago (for the first time since the mid `80's) and, except for the couple hits and, "Plexiglass Toilet", I don't even recall ever hearing them and, today, they just don't do much at all for me!

I sort of miss the old stereo system. I still have it and use it in my home theater setup but I hardly ever listen to my old vinyl. It is easier to find the album on You Tube.

Sadly, when my life fell apart I 2025, my entire LP vinyl record collection was sold by my not so nice brother. God I miss them 🥺 I even still had my great sounding speaker's from 1976 - BIC Venturie speaker's. And of course my turn table - all gone!

I am still not over the loss. I had quite a great collection. I began buying LP record albums back in 1966-the 80's. Probably at least 80 albums.

Most of them were from the 70's and some from the 80's. But I grew up in San Francisco during the hippie era and the music back then was amazing!!
Rock-'n'-roll FOREVER!!
