Its just a video screen taped to your eyes and as each eye gets a slightly different image, you see a 3D world that moves with your head movements and you can interact with that world based on the game you are playing, like picking up items, drawing in the air, shooting...

I don't know whats the cheapest option for gaming, it also depends on the game system you are playing on. PS Vr for playstation, or Occulus Rift for PC, ...

Samsung had a cardboard vr haedset for watching vr movies on your phone, its just a phone case you strap to your phase. Its 20 bucks, but gets the job done for special youtube videos. To see if you can take it or if you are getting motion sickness.

The Quest 2 is probably the best for your money, but I wouldn't buy one until you've tried it out via a friend or gaming café. My wife got one and enjoys a few games, but hasn't played any of the acclaimed ones and I get motion sickness from it. Neat in theory, though.
