Francis Cabrel has always been a favorite of mine, together with some of the older generation French singers such as Jean Ferrat for example. One of my favorite songs of his is "La Montagne".

Unfortunately, the newer generation of French singers are not as good in my opinion with the exception of Ren Gill perhaps.
