It's very cold here where I am, and instead of going out to places (except for doctor appts) I am stuck at home. I have just began watching on Tubee, "The Thicket", with Juliette Lewis, Peter Dinklage (from 3 Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), James Hetfield and Levon Hawke. So far it's really good, and funny as well. Peter Dinklage is always given the funniest lines. If you don't know him he is an actor with the rare genetic condition, Achondroplasia (dwarfism). It's a western about an evil outlaw played by Lewis, who is sought when she kidnaps the sister of Levon Hawke. Why she did, I'm not suer but she mentioned she "knows" who she is. Maybe she's got some special power. But this is a great western movie if I ever saw one and Juliette Lewis plays her character well!

It's true there are a lot of movies out there that got passed up because there are a lot of movies out there.
The supposedly "free' movies aren't so free because there are commercials on said channels, and I'm a bit spoiled by Netflix and TCM. If ONLY they played commercials at the beginning of and end of these films, I'd choose free channels more often.
But I want to see the bulk of a film.. Even a break in the middle would be fine. But some free channels have commercials even more often than network TV. Hard to take.18 Reply- 3 d
This is very true, I forgot about the commercials. Some have them about every 10 minutes. It seems even Youtube has commercials now. It wasn't like that before. I'm like you, I like to see the entire film and the ads are annoying. I happened to run into this movie by accident and I'm glad I didn't pass it up, it was that good. Thanks for you reply. by the way, you are a screen writer? Nice!

No, just a writer writer. I've worked on a screenplay and have a dream to finish one... but.. it's a hard row to hoe to get one in front of anyone who could produce one and there's loads of competition. I'll stick to my poetry.

Yeah there's self publishing. But u can't get yr book in front of a large audience with self publishing and it's costly and time consuming. WOuldn't be my choice.

As it is, I am writing a book. It's more like a memoir of my childhood. But I think, who would publish it when it's done? I'm not famous. So I might just publish it myself--or throw caution to the wind and send it out to publishers first to see if I have any luck. I am naive. If I must self publish, I will just give a copy to family and friends.

Go to book fairs at universities and find out if it has a market. Self publishing costs money and there are companies that will help you do this, but I think it's a racket. Check out sources and resources. Libraries might be able to help you too.

Oh you're a chicken. Unless it's below zero, you have no complaints... I jest. It's only going to be freezing here in a few days and In New Orleans, we are not prepared for such weather for any period of time! January is cold/damp bone chilling. Feels far colder than 30 degrees (forecast for next Tuesday)...
I've lived in 10 degrees below zero before. It ain't nothing nice. But I was in Illinois where there were snowplows and road salt and regular plowing/work to keep things moving. Loads of places suffering snow/black ice don't have salt, plows or anything to deal with such events.
We're one of them. Hope you warm up ASAP!! Kisses!!!

Many of the free channels are owned by the big networks so they have somewhere to rotate their content so they don't lose the rights to it.

I have watched many movies on TUBI. They have some excellent old black and white 30s 40s and '50s. The programs were excellent. Great actors and actresses. They didn't have all the high tech that we have today to increase our movie experience. I highly recommend the freebie channels.

there is one called Freebie, too.
On Tubi, I saw the original "The Taking of Pelham 123", with Walter Matthau, Robert Shaw, and Jerry Stiller. It was so good. I grew in Manhattan so I had a ball when I saw it again on Tubi. They had a remake with John. Tavolta and Denzel Washington, and it was not good, too much cursing and bad acting. Too violent. I also saw I think, "The Boys From Brazil" with Gregory Peck on it as well as "The Open Window" (Jimmy Stewart), all great movies.

I found Annihilation while it was free on YouTube.

Ask"The Thicket" sounds like a great find! Movies on free channels often surprise me too. One of my favorites was "The Florida Project" on a streaming platform. It captivated me with its raw storytelling and Willem Dafoe's performance. Another gem was "Tucker and Dale vs. Evil," a horror-comedy with a unique twist that kept me entertained throughout. These hidden treasures make exploring free channels worth it! 🎬✨
