Do you like watching older or newer movies?

I think Barbie is the only movie I’ve seen in the last decade, lmfao. And I didn’t even care to see it, I took my lady. It was fine, but I didn’t really feel any type of way about it.

So I guess it’s older movies by default, but also not really, because I just love all things from the 80s-00s, it’s all very nostalgic for me. I think those would be my favorite anyway. And I feel like they barely make movies anymore, but maybe I’m just getting old and out of the loop😝 I just hear about movies that the “white grievance” crowd complains about these days, lmao.

But my recent shopping problem has been used DVDs💁‍♂️🛍️🤣 I’m trying to build the personal Blockbuster (look it up😂) of my dreams, lmao

I just want every movie I ever liked, basically. Plus either the entirety or the best seasons of my all-time favorite shows. And I mean ALL-TIME, I can’t just have like 50 series’ worth of like 5-10 seasons, but just maybe like the Top 10-15. Seinfeld, The Office, The Sopranos, The Wire, The Simpsons, etc.

At some point I’d need a whole separate wing of the house if I went too crazy😂 I’m almost entirely comedy though, so at least it’s not a bunch of genres, haha. And things with multiple installments, I try to get the all-in-one DVD. Rocky, Back To The Future, stuff like that.

I’ve realized I like tactile media for movies. Digital music is better than CDs, but streaming SUCKS. I can get these movies, to have FOREVER, for like $3. I can get an entire series of a show for under $30. What’s $30 get you for streaming? 3 or 4 months, on only one service? For a much lower price and only the additional cost of some clutter, I can rarely ever need to stream anything.

Instead, I have a basically endless well of tried and true classics. To watch an entire series of a show…. that might take 6 months, a year, I don’t know. Pushing $100, likely. And it’s all spread across different services…. I’m all set. Inefficient.

Anyway, that wasn’t the question, lmao. I said all that to say that so many of the movies I have are 20-40+ years old. But that was the golden age to me, objectively, PLUS the subjective nostalgia. Brings me back to sleepovers or just riding my bike to the video store to rent something for the weekend. Or later stuff with later memories.

But I’m watching a lot of the older ones as I get them and they still hold up👍 Although a lot of them…. there’s some pretty questionable stuff in them where I’m like for all the complaining some people do against it, I think it’s a good thing that we don’t do/say anymore in some widely consumed feature film🤦‍♂️

Some old movies are great and there are some really good new movies, too.

I generally like old movies better because the studios had professionals making them. The acting, dialogue, lighting, and cinematography was excellent.

New movies rely upon CG and sound effects. And I HATE jiggly, hand held cameras, fast cuts, and lack of lighting to cover up for cheep special effects and choreography. Half of the time, you can't see who is who or what is happening. And some of the CG stuff is retarded.

90's movies are the ones I repeat. Can't remember the last recent movie I have watched. But I have been addicted to youtube channels for a long time now and don't watch movies much.

New movies are garbage, but I don't like rewatching movies I've already seen, even if they're a lot better, so I just don't watch very many movies any more.
For example, I just watched Jurassic World : Rebirth, which is absolute trash, and not a movie I would recommend to anyone. On the other hand, the original Jurassic Park was a masterpiece, but having seen it already, I have no particular desire to watch it again.
