What do you think about the late Peruvian singer Yma Sumac?

She was a soprano with an unusual vocal range. In 1956 she was awarded a Guinness World Record for the greatest range of musical value. She could mimic the sound of birds, parrots, jaruagrs, the wind among other things with her voice. People sometimes even describe her voice as sounding extraterrestrial. Some find her style to be a uniquely extraordinary artistic feat while others find it unsettling and even terrifying, for me I think it’s a bit of both. What do you think?

I have one of her songs in my Psych Demos collection and she sings with two voices at the same time. I can do that two, sometimes and also have a pretty large vocal range but never bothered to find out the span. Up until a couple years ago when I got a nasty cold the screwed up my vocal cords, I could even do an extremely high pixie voice. Now, I can get KINDA close to that but I can't quite hit the same range.
Then, there's Capt. Beefheart who had an 8-octave vocal range and could shatter microphones with his voice!
Spell her name backwards and it's, Amy Camus. I saw her on David Letterman once.

Thank you! I just hope it completely heals up, soon! It's been at least at decade.
You can, he's not exactly for everyone. His more commercial stuff was his first album, "Safe As Milk" and the two he did in the mid `70's, "Bluejeans And Moonbeams" and "Unconditionally Guaranteed". His other 8 or 9 albums are more for people that REALLY get into his style. It's an acquired taste! You might hate it, at first but, it might grow on you once you understand they actually wrote that stuff to sound that way. It's not just people playing anything they want.

Here's a slightly milder example of Capt. Beefheart's music. Drumbo is wearing a pair of panties on his head. He was the one responsible for writing and arranging most of the music because the Capt. couldn't read or write music. Beefheart would sing the various parts he wanted played by the various members of the band and they'd copy that.
