What is the single best movie you’ve ever watched and why?

I'm in the mood for a killer movie, but I'm tired of the same old stuff. Give me your best recommendation—try to impress me.

I am not into violent movies and I practically never watch any movies or TV series that have violence as the main focus in them. Therefore, I seldom watch any US produced movies since most of them are about violence and/or are propaganda movies.

My all time favorite movie was produced back in 1984 by Czech producer Miloš Forman. The main characters are mostly unknown to the general public and include actors like Tom Hulce and F. Murray Abraham.

I am talking of course about a movie that has a great plot, that is based partially on historical facts. The movie does not have a pretentious title. It is simply called "Amadeus" and is partially featuring the story of the best music composer to this date. I am referring to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

For suspense, The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. Either the 1974 version with Walter Matthau or the newer with Denzel Washington.

For a gritty crime drama, The French Connection.

For a light, date movie, Free Guy.

For extreme comedy, Airplane, or Top Secret!.

For a 1960's rom-com, Sex and the Single Girl.

For ultra-violence, Dredd.

For a French rom-com, The Valet.

For a character study, Lost in Translation.

For a French character study, Un Coeur en Hiver.

It’s the one movie that completely stunned me in a theater: genre-bending, darkly funny, tense, and emotionally brutal. The social-class symbolism is genius, every frame is composed like a painting, and the plot keeps shifting just when you think you understand it. No scene is wasted, and that basement reveal still haunts me 😮‍💨
