Why is Sinners so highly rated?

[Malwi93]

its like mass delusion, there is literally nothing extraordinarily about this movie and supremely chaotic

i think its one of the least interesting (read: worst) movies i ever saw

[SixFootSexy]

There are parts of it that are good. It looks good. It's a period piece.

However, the story is about racism and selling your soul to the devil for fame, based on the life of Robert Johnson. It's always a bad trade:

Its probably in the same vein as Black Panther.. Over hyped because it's a decent "Black" made movie.. I haven't seen sinner but its probably not bad, just Over hyped due to the music and the acting..

[Malwi93]

no, it was worse lol. let me give you a specific example. there is a scene of Smoke killing a snake, the type of attention they gave it youd think it has some major connection to the story, you know how they set the movie up, right... well, no it was just a random ass scene! the snake was no bad omen, nothing like that, it was just a random ass snake. and thats most of that movie

[Malwi93]

i believe thats called a Chekhovs gun failures and there's a lot of bloops like that over there

[Joshydavid25]

Who knows.. Maybe it had a little bit of symbol or theme to it.. I guess a lot of these writers need to stop with trying to be deep and missing..

[Nikki1989]

The mainstream easily entertains itself with the banal and predictable. It happens with movies; it happens with music.

[Malwi93]

but its shocking such a weak script would even be greenlighted

[EmmaMary]

So I haven't missed much by not watching it then... Not that I've even heard of it anyway!

[EmmaMary]

Thank you for the MHO.

“Sinners” hits differently depending on what you expect from it. 😅

People who love it usually connect with its messy, chaotic energy: the moral ambiguity, flawed characters, and the way it refuses to spoon‑feed answers. That unpredictable structure can feel “deep” or “artful” to some, and just disorganized to others.

It’s less about extraordinary plot and more about atmosphere, themes, and performance style. If those don’t click, the high ratings feel totally baffling. 🎬

The cinematography is fantastic. Acting and scripting is good...

... and then it collapses for want of a denouement.

It's still head and shoulders above One Battle After Another, in my opinion.

[Malwi93]

thats another horrific one

[MrChinaski]

It was a pretty weak best movie oscar field this year. I would have picked Bugonia. Last year was weak too, with the caveat that I'm yet to build up the energy to watch The Brutalist.

[NathanDavis]

it's marketing... that's just how marketing goes and works

[Malwi93]

i do think they sent out people to review it and then its like groupthink

[NathanDavis]

a lot of movie makers spend almost half of a third of their budget, on marketing alone...

[DryGermanGuy]

I haven’t seen it, but sometimes a movie is extremely well liked by the critics and fails with the general audience.

Sorry you just have bad taste in movies. It wad really good and a cinematic masterpiece. Glad your not a movie critic cause this one when right over your head

[RedInnocent69]

Everything about Sinners is extraordinary
