I pouch style briefs because they support everything while giving it enough room. You aren't constantly reminded of the anatomy hanging between your legs with them. I also prefer modal blends of fabric, which are typically softer and breathe better. My favorite are Naked's Luxury Brief. The fabric is ridiculously soft, and all of the elastic is covered in fabric. You forget you're wearing anything at all with them.

Boxer-briefs are the only option. I require support and thigh protection, especially in active heat; a theme park with boxers or less is hideous once you hit a water ride. Cloth waistbands are where its really at though

When I do wear underwear which is rare, its either cotton or silk boxers since i hate briefs and i hate boxer briefs because your balls get cramped up in them with no breathing room but its usually hanes or fruit of the loom cotton when i do wear them which is rare
