Well, essentially they are like wedgies, but they are surprisingly comfortable, and don't leave panty lines under tight jeans, etc. People who wear thongs regularly don't feel them, but if you're wearing one for the first time it'd be something to get used to.

They're not comfortable at all. But they look good and nobody wants an underwear line so it's kind of something you have to get used to.
