The thing about having a style that says a lot about your personality is that it will keep some guys away--and that's definitely a good thing.

For instance, if you're a punk, a guy who cares too much about the mainstream for your taste won't want to date you, and you won't have to worry about wasting time with him. Yay! However, if you're a prep who likes the establishment because of the security it gives you, total rebels probably won't look at you twice.

If you feel like your personal style is keeping guys away, I suggest it might not be because of the emo-, punk-, or prep-ness of the style. First, I would look at how flattering your clothes actually were. If they don't flatter you, you don't have to change your style--there are lots of different types of clothing in each style. Look for stuff that both expresses your personality and makes you look good.

If it's not the clothes, it might be that you're being to exclusive. I've seen that a lot of people from one scene are scared of people from other scenes--the emo who's afraid of preps because of how some jocks teased her, the prep who's scared of punks because of a bad experience with an aggressive one. Don't let it get to you. Some people in each scene are nice and some are not as much, but it has less to do with their scene than their innate personality. Keep an open mind and be nice to everyone, despite polos or crazy hair.

I think anyone with similar tastes and personality traits. If you are preppy, a preppy guy will probably like you, and same with other stereotypes, but not always.

Hey! Yeah, I agree with the consensus that it definitely depends who you're talking to. Personally, I love girls that are "different".. my style is kind of a hybrid of prep-punk or "ironic" (collared shirts under sweater let's say, but with minor punk influences like the wallet chain, earrings, spiked hair, yadda yadda etc.), so anything like that in a girls' fashion is rad. But any individual traits of emo/punk is preferred regardless of how they wear it.

As for personality, it's hard to pin-point but generally you're an ace in my book as long as you don't have a chip on your shoulder and complain too much and bring me down :)

but I honestly can't stand emos or scene kids. preps are full of them self and I'm not a big fan of the style. Punk girls are good well the ones in the middle, not to many peircings and usualy no mohawks. the kind with plaid or black skinny jeans and bondage belts with like a the causualties, the germs or MISFITS shirt wit cuts and ripps in certain places on the shirt

Emo is rather gay lol. Ditto on preps. Tartan pants are awesome, but watch out for those stupid girls that just wear the Misfits insignia of the skull face and have never even LISTENED to a Misfits song! Same goes with the Ramones; I know people who do that, and I want to hit them for it...

Well preppy guys generally go for preps. Emo guys normally go for emos or punks. Punk guys normally go for punk girls but a few are willing to go out with emo girls. The label less will go out with any of the three. Of course, this is just in general. Every guy is different and is attracted to different sorts.

It really does not matter to me I dress preppy, but I have been dieing to date this emo girl. I look at the girl not what she wears. I think that's how it should be.

Personally emo girls are what I am attracted to, its just they dont care about what society thinks of them and that they look so damn hot and just are emotionally open to ones they trust and I think they're amazing

I like emo or prep but its up to personal preference. I've had good experiences with those 2 categories so I tend to stick with what I enjoy.
