I'd test it out by wearing it for the same time period around the house.

Something like that, especially under clothes, in a restaurant might get so hot/unbreathable that it might make you feel unwell.

So I'd test first.

But if it's fine, then yes.

I've worn a collar under a scarf while out before going back home to have fun. I love doing that sort of thing.

Let your boyfriend know how you feel wearing it for a short duration, and let him know you'll wear it when you get home.

I'm sure he'd appreciate you wearing it the whole night, but I think he'd prefer you not passing out over dinner more.

He will love it. If your going out for a meal just be careful that your not too uncomfortable, would hate to see the meal and mood spoilt. Might put a damper on the surprise. Could always mention it at the meal to explain any discomfort (could be a good way to build tension)
