Do you wear layers of clothing when very cold or tend not to as you may think it is more fashionable not to?

Very cold where I am, we have had the rain, and winds today and even a bit of snow recently

I was bundled up today with a Blouse, Sweater and my Cardigan, Had my coat and scarf on earlier too, with Gloves

Also Trousers, Tights underneath my Trousers, Socks on top of my Tights and my Rain Boots.

I am one of these people who prefers comfort and warmth over fashion at this time of year.

In cold climates: I grew up in a cold winter climate (not the worst but bad enough). I think people wore dark colors, not mainly for fashion but because it's more likely to absorb the sun and the retailers didn't sell a lot of variety. For something like a down jacket or poncho it really doesn't matter what color it is as it's just holding in air to insulate you. It's different than if you just have a bunch of thin layers on. And yes of course I wore lots of layers because if you're standing outside in the cold at night with the wind blowing, you'd be foolish not to have on multiple layers. I wouldn't wear something like you have on in the picture outside in the winter since it's not really protecting the neck (or ears & head).

Near the tropics: Most people wear the same colors they wear when it's hot. Some wear darker colors. Most people don't follow a fashion rule. But cold is relative, of course. What people in hot climates call cold is a joke to people who live in really cold places.

I'm one of those that often wear short sleeves in the winter when it's snowing but it's not because I think heavier clothing is unfashionable. Actually, I think I'm being very unfashionable wearing short sleeves in the snow.

Part of it is because I don't get cold as easily as most normal people. I seem fairly immune to extreme temperatures. That has gone down with age but I still don't get cold as easily as most people.

The other part though is because I'm a sprinter. I'm light and bouncy and explosive on my feet. I'm not the strongest man in the upper body but I'm fast and light on my feet. I can move fast, run fast, leap high, climb fast. I like to feel light and springy on my feet. Wearing heavy clothing restricts my mobility and makes me feel heavy and slow. I think if I was a soldier in the middle ages, I would be allergic to wearing heavy armor for similar reasons. It might get me killed but I prefer speed over protection and warmth.

I've been like that since I was a kid. My parents would insist I wear some heavy coat when it's snowing outside and then I'd take it off as soon as they weren't looking so that I could run and jump and climb more easily. Mobility is very important to me. I have a similar problem with carrying umbrellas when it's raining. I don't mind getting weight and carrying an umbrella slows me down, so I usually don't bother even though it annoys everyone around me that I'm standing in the rain with no umbrella.

Got a similar problem with boots. I think boots look awesome. But I can't wear them comfortably. They don't let me rotate my ankle or spring off my toes as easily. They make me feel very restricted in movement in ways where I'm eager to take them off as soon as possible and feel free and unconstricted.

I am past the phase of dressing for style. It took an experience to drill it through my head though. Grade 10 I was obsessed with “cuffing” the bottom of my skinny jeans. I thought a quick 10 minute walk to school in -30 weather wasn’t a big deal until I got frostbite on my ankles…my skin that was exposed between my socks and jeans left a perfect line of semi discolour on my skin for like 10 months cause of it. I dress properly now

OMG invest in a turtleneck! I’m always always in layers. Today was a turtleneck, hoodie, puffer, and my Canada goose parka. On my bottoms was uniqlo heattech leggings, thigh high socks and lined leather pants. And boots. If I wore what you did I would freeze!!

Wearing layers of clothes in cold weather is the best way to dress. It keeps you warm when it's very cold, and if it gets warmer, it's very easy to take a layer or two off. You can dress in layers and still be fashionable.

I never understood why some women wear miniskirts when it's below freezing outside. Is fashion that important?

I don't give a f*ck about fashion in principle, let alone when it's cold!
In the summer I wear what I like and how I like it with no regards to fashion bullsh*t! I'll wear two different socks, if I feel like it. :)
The same applies to the winter but the top priority is to keep myself warm bc I have a very low tolerance of cold. So low that when the temperature drops below 22 degrees (Celsius), I feel cold.

I see no issue. You look very fashionable. Better than a hoodie or some baggy graphic sweater. I also wear layers. I always have layers underneath my vintage overcoat because I'd rather die than wear some ugly puffer jacket.

It depends really because I do aerobics a lot typically jog a lot I build up body heat that extreme cold doesn’t really bother me like one day in the afternoon it was like 7 degrees and I went to the store in shorts and a sweatshirt and I didn’t shiver much I just shaked and twitch but I twitch most of the time for some psychological reason

Layers def. Plus I think winter styles make most people look better.

It kinda makes me chuckle when it's freezing out, and a girl show up in shorts and a low cut top, and then talks about how cold it is.

Men: Choose to show up in long pants and a long sleeve button up shirt.

Women: Choose to show up in shorts and a low cut tank top.

Public conclusion: "Air conditioning is sexist".

I wear layers of clothing all year round - even when it's not cold.
I love to wear warm clothes, be bundled up.
So I wear long underwear year round - even in hot summer - and always jeans, long-sleeved t-shirt, a hoodie, ...
My body got used to the additional layers, so I can wear them without any problems.
May look strange, but feels good for me ;-)
