Fashion, was the creation of fashion made to please the opposite gender or please yourself?

Because from what it seems now, it seems like it's suppose to please the other gender, I'm judging from the fact that the size of clothing is getting smaller to show more skin like it's suppose to please the other gender, maybe it's to please themselves cause it makes them feel good, or both, the way society runs now tho it seems like it's more for pleasing the other gender considering companies look for unrealistic beauty in women to promote their products, which destroys some women's self esteem in the process, maybe it's the money, they think that a girl isn't pretty enough to make them enough money which is another problem itself, back to the topic, I notice that some big modeling companies require a body weight, Victoria secret required a very skinny body weight last time i checked for someone, which is the reason why I was with the idea of the plus size modeling thing, since when did the definition of a model turn physical? Wasn't being a model an idol? I'd understand being a model for a body builder or health related topic but fashion and clothing? Do you think influencing a certain look is being a good influencer? It's all just a bit confusing on what the goal is? It's to make money is my guess but perhaps attracting people so they can buy it for themselves or others, what is your view on this?
