Simply put, like @CloudMassacre already said, research shows that lighting has an impact on the perception and as a consequence, on the mood of people.
It's fascinating phenomenon - certain spectra of visible light actually increase cognitive function and propositive moods; while others help relax and can be useful in treating anxieties.

Psychologically there are benefits to the colors you make rooms, but I don’t know enough to really expand on that. I just remember how in a call center each wall was a different color and people were encouraged to stand and look at the different walls because it tricks your brain into thinking you’re going different places or in a diverse area
