butch: usually very short hair (guy level short), androgynous accessories (often have ear piercings, gages or adrogynous earrings), usually no makeup/nailpolish, very masculine clothes head to toe (masculine colors, patters, cuts, styles), often have androgynous tattoos and piercings. essentially they're dressed like a dude head to toe or very close to that. also its more of a style unique to lesbians and people on the trans spectrum. its so so rare to have a straight or even bi girl dress to that degree of masculiness

tomboy: usually a more feminine lenghth hair and hairstyle, feminine accessories, may have lots of makeup & stuff like nailpolish/fake nails or none, the whole outfit can be androgynous/masculine to a feminine twist of men's fashion (often the whole outfit isn't masculine. like it can be a pink crop top paired with baggy ripped boyfriend jeans and airforces), can also be dressed really feminine but with a edgy twist that makes her a tomboy since its not stereotypically girly. overall the tomboy still looks feminine to some degree but her outfits tend to have a boyish or edgy look to them. the style doesn't really mean anything about the girl's sexual orientation, most are straight or bi

Yea butch is basically what you said, its often a girl who is into girls bt tries to dress like a male/trans. A tomboy is usually a girl who dresses down but still somewhat feminine, is down to earth, and into a lot of “guy” hobbies/activities/interests. For example, Zendaya was very tomboyish when on the Disney channel shows like KC Undercover and Shake It Up but she also knew how to glam it up a bit on/outside the show. Hillary Duff in A Cinderella Story was tomboyish. Sanaa Lathan was a tomboy in Love & Basketball. Buttercup was a tomboy in Powerpuff Girls. I didn't watch iCarly but Sam was a tomboy i believe. Amanda Bynes was a tomboy in She’s the Man but then she went full butch just to join their team lmao

There's so many different shades.

The one on the left is more usual of butch/masc people. The right is soft butch or soft tomboy style - more femme than the left.

People dress how they want. There's no need to overcomplicate it.
