Are really tight jean shorts gross?

So there was a 70-80s throw-back party and I packed clothes to change into after work for it. I discovered too late that my old cut-off Jean shorts were too small but I was able to squeeze into them with effort. But then one of my co-worker friends teased me about my really tight shorts. And said it was really obvious I had gotten bigger since they had been my regular attire. I was mortified. He seemed to back pedal and tried to say they looked fine and that guys like tight shorts “the tighter, the better”. But it definitely felt like he was just trying to make me feel better. I ended up leaving the party early because I felt so incredibly embarrassed and fat for wearing small shorts.
It’s clearly too late to regain my dignity, but I just can’t stop wondering about it either. What do guys think of short shorts, tight shorts, too tight of shorts? Is there a line between hot and yuck?

It depends on where you're wearing them, the cut, and your figure.

You're not wearing them in the city with everyone gawking while your ass hangs out of them... At the beach or at a pool party you should be fine.

The extreme "shredded wheats" look with the inside of the pockets hanging out... yuck. A little shred (count about 3cm width, 2cm height) is cute and tasteful on jeans or shorts.

Know what cut compliments your figure -- high/low waist, high cut/mid-thigh, etc. etc. Overly fitted is also not as nice looking as you may initially think. Leave yourself a little bit of wiggle room so you look more comfortable in what you're wearing.

They were just shorts from a leaner time of my life. Definitely didn’t have wiggle room in them though. Though they were tight in a way my ass couldn’t possibly hang out. More like the shorts were painted on kinda. 🫣

You’re coworker sounds like he’s gay. I don’t think his comment (Insensitive no doubt) Had anything to do with how you looked in the shorts. His caveman brain noticed that the shorts looked smaller on you and was teasing you about it.
It reminds me of my favorite saying……Does my ass make these pants look fat?
Instead of backpedaling with it, He should’ve led with how “guys like tight shorts” because it’s true.

I threw away the shorts. And I will try outfits on before I leave my house from now on. And definitely stay away from anything too form fitting.

No I was just digging out clothes I thought might work for the throw-back party. I have clothes that fit me better for normal times.

Well I personally think I’m fat, but I super ironically got diagnosed with anorexia like 4 hours after making this post so I guess I have some things to consider…..
