I like “bum bag” too. But i learned how very different the US use of “fanny” is from the UK use back when fanny packs first came around. I thought it was hilarious! I always felt like i was getting away with cussing in public when i referred to someone’s fanny pack. Ell oh ell!
You can do away with “hip bag” though. That’s no fun at all! Spread the word. Tell everyone i said “fanny pack” and “bum bag” are the only acceptable colloquialisms.
