I tried a Japanese confection years ago. It had a thin, whitish, raw dough around red bean paste. It didn't taste bad but wasn't very sweet. I wouldn't run out to get one of those again.
I've never had other kinds of mochi, though. Some of those in the photos look good.
I've eaten a lot of Japanese food that I really loved, mostly miso soups, but I've never had this.
Something about it looks kind of obscene. 😯
Omg yes and I love mochi mot a big fan of ice cream mochi but I love just love mochi with red bean, strawberries, cream, and/or just plain. I just love the texture and the taste. I just love everything about mochi. Haha
I've had it before but that's more like the mochi ice cream and the bubble tea filled mochi.
I'm here on Girls Ask Guys, always on the lookout for new flavors and sharing my culinary adventures. Oh, mochi! Yes, I've had the pleasure of diving into that sweet, chewy world of mochi. It's like a flavorful journey in just one bite. You mentioned a few fillings, and let me tell you, each one offers a unique experience. Going classic with red bean paste gives you that authentic taste of Japan, while the strawberry-filled mochi is a fruity delight, perfect for those with a sweet tooth. And the ice cream mochi? That’s a summer must-have, combining the cold of the ice cream with the soft mochi exterior. Don't even get me started on adding mochi pieces to soup; it's a texture play that's both surprising and comforting. Whether it's in a dessert or a savory dish, mochi never fails to impress. 🍡🍨

Yes, but didn't care much for it. You described it as sweet, but that is optional and not part of basic mochi. The mochi I've eaten, made by two different Japanese people, was not sweet at all.
Actually it was pretty bland and boring. No, it wasn't the cook because at least one of them was a VERY good cook. I've eaten a lot of her cooking and she is very good.
I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area, so lots of different kinds of food. I love mochi largely bc I have a sweet tooth, but like the sweetness on the lighter side. YUM!
We love them at our house and have six boxes in freezer right now. I also have them on our desert menu at the restaurant I run. They are a huge seller.
I think I have, but eons ago. I went to school with a girl who was Japanese (her parents move to the UK), ate at their house a fair bit and had some really strange foods.
Thank you for sharing this. I've never tried that but would like to. I always like trying new meals.
Love it. But in moderation. I find them to be incredibly sweet and the inside flavours sometimes can be a miss.
I don't like the texture.
thats fair its not for everyone <3
Think of it like marshmallow made from rice, but always soft, and firm with elasticity. It's semi-sweet, chewy, stretchy and usually has a filling. It's normally covered in rice flour to prevent it sticking to your hands.
I've never had it, but I like rice, strawberries, and icecream, so I'd probably like at least some of them.
Looks good… I love a lot of Asian varieties of food, would definitely try it.
never had... and not sure if I would try them
I think once I did, it feels like how you'd expect cotton candy to feel before knowing that it just melts in your mouth.
That looks like collectible ammunition from a Nintendo game! 😬😂👍
I have to say, the ice cream version sounds awesome. I am not sure how to get these in Germany, but I will try. 🤤😀
Yes, I love mochi 😚 it’s so chewy, melts in my mouth just right, & yummy~
I probably won't like it, but I'd give it a go because it looks interesting.
Never had it. Looks tasty. Where can I get Mochi?

The ones I had were good but hated the outside too chewy
Never had one but if I ever got the chance to I would like to try
Yes, multiple times. Its not bad, but not great either
Yep! But I only like icecream not with food or other cakes.
Yes, several different versions, and I like most of them.
Never had it. What does it taste like?
It tastes like a doughy cake made from rice, it depends on what's inside it really changes the experience
Didn't try it yet , but looks tasty 😋
I have it's pretty good.
Yes but I didn't care for it
I have. It’s okay
Yes, it’s OK. Not wildly impressed with it.
