What kind of establishments would you prefer frequenting?

Hey everyone,

I think everyone whom enjoys food has at least had a conversation about this topic at least once or twice in their lives.

What sort of dining establishments do you think are better considering the cost and the quality of the food?

I will list some of the common types of establishments off the top of my head.

A) Fine dining estalishments: Think Pétrus, Alinea or L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon (This restaurant in Hong Kong was hands down the best food I've ever eaten 😂😂😂)

B) Casual Dining- Think nice steakhouses, sushi or ramen spots, Indian food and so on.

C) Mom and Pop Shops: Think neighbourhood places like Delis, Pizzarias, Chinese food etc. (Been to Spain and Italy. Mom and pop shops there were mindblowing)

D) Street Food: Think food trucks or Thailand/Taiwan.

E) Fast Food: Throwing this in here for fun.

Although I've been to quite a few fine dining establishments with L'Atelier being my favorite restaurant of all time (I think I'm just biased because I love the guy 🤣🤣), I generally feel that; given also the region that I'm from, street foods and mom and pop shops are sometimes able to produce food of comparable quality at a fraction of the cost.

What are your thoughts?

I work at an upscale casual restaurant, not super corporate so like, the menu is constantly changing according to the season.. the chefs and bartenders get to create their own thing.. and we have a lot of interesting dishes you wouldn’t find at any ol’ casual restaurant.. and this is the kinda restaurant I prefer.. not over priced like some fine dining restaurants but still a little pricy considering the location and service provided. But I do love mom and pop shops..

Yeah, there are definitely many higher end that casual restaurants that rival fine dining establishments while being significantly less pretentious and obnoxious haha. Not hating on the hard work and dedication to perfection of the staff that work there but the crowd it attracts sometimes are just...

Casual dining. For me eating out is as much about the social aspect as the food but I want to feel the foods worth thr money. Three peas and a cube of chicken decorated with a sprig of parsley for £50 isn't my thing.

Mom and pop shops can be good but too many overrated their own abilty or worse still cut corners to maximise profit.
