Stuffed Animals and Guys

(stuffed animals as in plush toys, plushies, etc, not hunting trophies :P)

Okay so I believe that really everyone should have a stuffed animal, even guys, they are therapeutic :) . Sometimes you just need to hug/cuddle/punch/bash something.

I also understand some social stigmas against guys and even some girls/women, having stuffed animals. So I understand the perceived "necessity" of the excuse "Oh, [blank] gave it to me *laughs nervously*"

Now this has lead me to the conclusion that I want to give some of my guy-friends (including my boyfriend) stuffed animals (no more then one each), for various occasions.

So what I'm looking for is some input from guys (you can answer anonymously if you wish). Would you be absolutely horrified by the idea of getting a stuffed animal (or would you be happy, or neutral)? What sort (which animals etc) of stuffed animal would be most "acceptable"? What would be the best way to go about giving them? Have you been given a stuffed animal (explain)?

Also looking to hear from girls if they have any experience in the area or just want to toss in their two cents. ^^

I gave my boyfriend a plushie :D. It was a panther with green eyes. Along with the plushie I included a poster I made explaining that it was "My Little Guardian Panther" and that it would shift into attack mode and protect its owner from anything!

Then at the bottom of the poster it included piles of disclaimers about what it couldn't protect against ^^. He loved it and walked around with the panther on his head for a while wanting people to look at him funny so he could explain it ^^

It now lives in a wall drop box next to his door watching the room stealthily :D

Receiving a stuffed animal from anyone would be completely awkward for me, and I'd get rid of it as soon as possible.

That's not my thing, and I got rid of my stuffed animals when I was 5. I discovered bikes at that age, and as such my first step towards being a man was forged.

I understand what you're saying about social perception about men, or even teens and young boys with stuffed animals, but the fact remains there are just some things you never get for a guy, and there are some things you never get for a girl.

Hm I understand your personal opinion, I don't really agree with it as a universal fact though. What sort of gifts would you "never get for a girl" (other then sexual ones)? Just curious as I'm having trouble thinking of what you could mean. By the way would a stuffed animal that's your schools mascot be less horrible (ours is a penguin)? Either way, thanks for giving your opinion.

I suppose the team mascot idea could pass. But that's specific to the guy, I wouldn't use that as a general rule.

And if I was in a committed relationship, I see no problem with gifts that are related to sex. That's our business, nobody else's. I certainly would not suggest you do such a thing.

So along with stuffed animals, I would never want to receive a doll, or a gift card to Hallmark, or a chia pet. I'm sure there's more but I need to think about that.

I don't have anything against them, I just think that's a weird gift if it's from a significant other. Maybe to be funny, but if they are trying to be legitimate that would be way too goofy.

I agree with you! Everyone should have at least one, I have a room full of them lol. My brother is like 25 and he has his soft toy from when he was a kid lol. I think it's a cute prezzie to give to your bf!

As ashamed as I am to admit this, I still have a stuffed bear that I've had ever since I was a small child, but, in my defense, my father still has one that he's had for, like, fifty years. So I'm not *that* odd.

I wouldn't mind getting a stuffed animal as a gift, I guess. If I did, I would prefer it be something odd or obscure, I guess, and not, like, just a generic bear or cat or dog or whatever. I would probably prefer getting the gift in private, and not in front of other people.

^^ Ah don't worry I have a male cousin older then you who still has his stuffed bear too :) its very flat now though. Would a penguin be cool? Its one of the ones I was considering because its my school mascot. Thanks for the advice :)!

I think most people keep their favorite stuffed animals from childhood, so you're not odd at all :]

As both a male and stuffed animal collector, I certainly wouldn't mind receiving another one as a gift. I wouldn't want to be showered with them though, cause my collection is already pretty big, and I don't want it getting too big. Any additions I make to my collection these days are made sparingly. I enjoy stuffed animals, and I am quite happy with my current collection, but stuffed animals aren't for everybody. Because guys generally don't seem to like stuffed animals, I would be a bit careful about giving guys stuffed animals unless it's one whom you know would like it. In a perfect world, we would not have to worry about potential ridicule over stuffed animals, but it is an unfortunate reality.

Tbh if I were given a stuffed animal Id love it, sometimes you want something to cuddle lol the bigger the better ;)
