There is a co-worker that I previously went to high school with. The only time I generally see her is at team meetings. When we see each other she hugs me after the meeting even in front of my boss. I typically do not feel comfortable showing any kind of affection at work.
The way that she hugs me is different than what I am used to. She stretches out her arms high and wraps her arms around my neck. Then she kind of leans back a bit with her pelvis thrusting forward and her back arched back. Sometimes I worry that I have to catch her from falling. Why would a woman arch her back during a hug around the neck?
Yesterday, after a meeting I said hello. She did this and people looked at us funny. Then she out of nowhere told me she was going to a grocery store but was nervous because a guy works there who stood her up on a date. Why would she tell me this?
Anyway, during the hug I caught myself accidentally reaching for the lower part of her back. So i stopped myself and simply patted the lower part of the side of her back while both of her arms were wrapped around my neck.
Then she was walking with me and her face was red because she was blushing easily. It was weird because her face and neck were red just telling me a story about how she threw up earlier in the week. Then another female coworker came around our age to say hello to me. She stared at us together. She then playfully punched me in the arm and started ignoring me to talk to the other female coworker.
Is there a meaning behind a girl hugging you around your neck versus around your waist or at your side? How do I deal with this when she is doing this in front of my female coworkers at work? We aren't dating and she's not the only female coworker I am attracted to.
