At what age did you begin puberty? And for the girls, was your mother there to help you through it?

I was 9 and my mother was there to help me, and my 2 sisters, every minute of the way from training bras to tampons to pads. Even before it all started she explained to us what was to come so there were no surprises.

I was 14 and sure, yeah, she was there, but I don't know if you can call it helping... lol

My first period happened at church and instead of being discrete about helping me, she announced it to literally everyone. Including one of my classmates who was the son of her friend (but he and I weren't friends).

So I went to the bathroom during the service and stayed there for basically all of church thinking I was actually dying and completely unprepared, and then after service, she came to get me and I asked for pads or something and she got me some, but had to run out to the car to do so, and apparently, between when she left the bathroom and when she returned, she announced to everyone what was happening and so when I left the bathroom, I was greeted by essentially the entire church population - including men - and it was mortifying.

We don't have a close relationship, my mother and I.

9 1/2 years old and when I got my first period at this age I cried because I thought was going to die. Luckily there was an older girl in my neighborhood who found me and took me her house where she and her mother cleaned me up and explained that I wasn't going to die at all I was just growing up. Thankfully it only lasted two days and didn't come back again until I was 12 and had taken health class in Jr. High so, it wasn't so frightening but it was uncomfortable at times for me.

Wow! That really sucks! I mean all of your girls who have commented... talk about torture!!! The age the humiliation... i am glad for you miss L that your mom was so supportive!!! but even to have that happen at 9. I only remember being teased by my family about a girl I went to school with at 9 and thinking that I didn’t even know why they were talking about a girl... lol! I was complexly oblivious at 9! I hit puberty at 12 and didn’t even get a razor for another year but I had to ask for it. And then I got the talk at 14 after I had already been way too poorly informed by the poem indestry.

I was 9 and my mom was like: okay, you know how to put pads? You put it in your panties. And that was it. I was having my period for 20 days i though i should be on my period for 30 days every other month. She finaly found out it didn't end when i made some flower patterns on her couch.

I started growing boobs in third grade but they grew REALLY slow and they’re small 😂 they stopped growing in freshman year of high school.
I got my period last day of school in 5th grade. It was BEYOND embarrassing especially since the color was off.
My mom was there for me, I’ll give her that credit.

If you count puberty since your period comes, I was almost 12 (two months or so before my bday). My mom wasn't that supportive because she should have known I'd need my own pads, but I had to take my older sister's pads for a while. My sister was also the one who taught me how to use them and gave me some tips to avoid blood stains during the night.

I think I was 12ish. My mom was and still is very stand offish about those subjects. I never got any talks or whatnot, so I relied on the internet (and my sister sometimes) to figure everything out.
