- typically a woman will lactate after giving birth or even near the end of a pregnancy.
- but there are cases when a woman could. start lactating early in a pregnancy or while never getting pregnant. those tend to require a hormone change or imbalance. also could be if she had giving birth in the recent past.
- because in rare cases if a woman that gave birth in the recent past. becomes close to a new born or young child that is still nursing. her body could start to lactate a bit in order to help feed the child in question.
- this was the function of a wet nurse before modern medicine came about. because they could continue to lactate even while not pregnant or nursing their own child.

Yes, if they are pregnant. And some girls/women may even lactate without being pregnant. That can be caused by side effects of certain medications, supplements, and certain herbs. Perhaps the most concerning cause is a problem with the thyroid, so if a female lactates without pregnancy or childbirth, then they should make sure it is not due to hypothyroidism or some medical issue affecting the thyroid gland.
Yes. It is possible to induce lactation without pregnancy.
Yeah. You can stimulate a breast to produce milk without impregnating the woman.
