It helps to be able to take hints in conversation but I think all this reading from afar is overrated as opposed to the effectiveness of action. It's not like you "discover" what girl is crushing on you. You make her crush on you because you go up to her, talk to her, charm her. Someone has to do something and it's usually the guy. You learn to build this and then the world is your oyster. You rely on "reading/discovering' this and you are a slave to the world.
