For 2 weeks I've been trying to distance myself from this girl I go to school with like replying slow to her texts, not saying hello or goodbye, talking to her less, avoiding her, etc and in response she's been more persistent and initiative such as video calling me, invading my personal space (like really close, sometimes I have to push her away), touching me, unwarranted hugs, she'll even pull and drag me if I try to leave or if she sees me in the halls.

And it would seem that she likes me and I'm just being an idiot, but the thing is I confessed to her a month ago and she rejected me (even though she gave hints and signs she liked me back). So I'm really confused.

Hard to say. Women, especially younger ones, are fickle. Could be she was unsure of her feelings towards you. So she just needed the time to process her feelings and now that she knows you like her, she might feel differently towards you (we tend to like people who like us). So now that you're pulling away, she's feeling more keen on pursuing you.

Or... she could've just liked the attention she was receiving from you and wants it to continue.

My advice: you need to decide if you really want her and then try to escalate. If her feelings have changed and now she wants you, she'll gladly go along with the escalation. If she resists and comes up with excuses or rejects any advancements, then she just wanted your attention to make her feel good about herself.

Maybe she's just seeking validation? If that's the case, then she's looking for you to pursue her so that she can feel good about herself and then perhaps she'll leave you once she gets it. I can't honestly be sure because I don't know her and it's just a guess, but my advice is unless she says otherwise, take her rejection as it is or straight up ask her why she's doing this so you can find out her intention.

Well, I've been through something simiar and the girl had a boyfriend. She was also really attractive.
But again, the only way to know is to ask her. Don't play her game and give her what she wants, just confront her if you're still confused about it. If you find that she still has no interest, and you don't plan on being "just friends," then cut her off and don't play her game.
