How do girls act when asking their crush to hang out as part of a group?

Probably more a question for shy girls. But here goes :)

Girls, say you have a crush on a guy which you are too shy to let him or anyone else in the friend group know about. When you arrange a situation for everyone to hang out, would you play down when he says he is definitely going even though you'd be really excited he will be there. Like, would you not respond to his replies directly and play it down a bit?
