Hard to say without a little more context. What is your relationship to this girl? Just friends? Someone you are interested in? Does she flirt with you or try to? I have two theories on why she might be doing this. It will really depend on a lot of other things that you don't mention. First theory is that she is flirting. This is her way of trying to flirt and get your attention. The only thing I will say is that there will be other signs of flirting than just this (typically).
My second theory is it is just who she is and you are not the only one she does this to. She just may be a very friendly and forward person and tend to give friends or those she thinks are friends nicknames.

If you guys kicked it off well for the short time being it could just be her personality. I personally shorten the names or give nicknames to people I recently spoke to because I wanna identify them by something special, it's just how I am personally.
Without knowing the woman, I have no way of knowing.
