Girls, Why do women wear leggings?

Hi I don’t mean to offend anyone but I’m just curious why do women wear leggings? Is it for comfort? Do women ever feel abit shy to wear them I mean they clearly show the shape of your butt and front area. Again no offence intended I’m just curious. Like women wear them everywhere.
