It's about 50/50 in my experience. Half the time they will avoid you or not talk to you in a group because they like you, while everyone else is talking to you. And then the other half they will always try to be near you or look for reasons to be near you.

But the interesting thing about the latter is that after a while they lose complete interest in you and stop trying to come around, but the girls who avoid you are more likely to stay interested. Maybe because they're shy and it takes time for them to get comfortable with you. Girls who show super hot interest in you in the beginning almost always become bored with you really quick later on.
