As a woman myself, I don't see this is an actively social site. Meaning, I'm not on here to find people to chat with, or to find friendships. I'm here to assist other people with my opinions, advice, ask questions myself, get answers to my curiosities, etc.
I see this as a passive social site - as there are many other things to focus on besides private messages. Many women do not appreciate the unsolicited direct messages, and will ignore them if they choose to.
ACTIVE social sites are more like friendship / relationship oriented; Bumble, Facebook, etc.

I respect your view... that's an individual choice offcourse... but it's also true that people here often talks in private and become good friends as well..
Of course! You can always try to message those users you find interesting, and try to spark a conversation :) I find more actively involved users, get far more attention and more messages too.
I had an old account here that I was locked out of, it was FULL of messages, as I devoted 2 hours of my time per day to come online and share my thoughts, help people, etc. Being active and creating a genuine profile, really makes the difference!
It depends. "Talking" isn't exactly what we're all doing. "Responding" or "reacting" to questions and comments is more accurate. It's not always an even exchange and some folks are just rude or nasty...
What impresses me is when someone shares a real moment in their lives (either on the public platform or in IM). Vulnerability is impressive (though I do warn folks against oversharing because the internet is what it is). The two friendships I've built on here over time are very rare. One is still around (the other RIP) to share "real talk". I appreciate directness and honesty. (Not RUDE or AGRO statements, but open... sharing... because we're all a little vulnerable, all here for different reasons... it's important to be respectful and mindful of that.)
