Can some explain to me the extent of what she said?

So I met this girl, June 17, 2023. Yes, I know, exact date, haha, but, yeah. At the time, she was dating this guy, she has a kid, but, I don't think he's the father, I was never real clear on that, because I didn't want to delve too much into it. I don't want kids myself, so, even if I did date her, I don't know how I'd go about it. I met her, at comicon, and have seen her at all the ones I go to, typically, because she owns a store, and usually does it there. There's a con today, but she's only going as a spectator, she doesn't really like this one. We've never had a problem with each other, and while I've bought stuff from her, I also tried to maintain my distance not only because of the boyfriend, but, I just, didn't want to be "just another client", as best I could. They broke up in may, I just found out, because I had asked her something and she said, yeah, I should have broken up with him years ago, he's an as- and i dk why i didn't sooner.

She then said "he likely didn't want to be friends with you anymore, because im a guy that was "too close" to her. Now, granted, im not gay, and wasn't tryina get with him of course, i also, was, like i said, not tryina push up on her, as much as i could, out of respect for him but, you know how men can be too, haha. So, while I understand what she meant, I'm not really getting like, to the extent of what she meant. we weren't that close. Yes, we take pics because she cos's all the time, at cos, and i will on occasion too, but, other than that, we don't "talk" mainly because it's a business, but, again, because i was trying to be respectful.

Also, im not the greatest at feeling out women, how do i know if she wants me to ask her out. There's a couple events I know she'd like, that we could go to, coming up, and I really want to, now that she's single. But, how do i know if she wants me to ask her?
