Girls, she says she just wants to be friends but then avoids me. What does that mean?

If you state that she "just" wants to be friends, that means that you probably asked her to be more than "just" friends, possibly friends with benefits or something in that line.

Being just casual and platonic friends does not mean that you have to text or see each other on a daily basis. She is probably avoiding you because you may have hinted at something that she did not agree with.

Your best bet would be to ask her directly rather than ask us because you are the one that knows her best.

Her reaction could be the one of a confused person or someone that can be friends but be more distant.

Obviously I can’t speak for her, but from outside observation it seems as though her suggesting friendship was her way of both letting you down easy and avoiding confrontation. She didn’t quite literally want to maintain a relationship of any sort, unfortunately.
