When you were in school, was square dancing actually a requirement?

My wife and I were talking and remembered in our respective high schools, we were both required to do a quarter yr of square dancing 🙄 It was part of physical ed. On "test" day, the boys had to wear a suit and the girls were required to wear a full length dress.

Did any of you have to do this? Thinking about it now, it just seemed so ridiculous.

I can't remember if it was square dancing... but I do know it was some type of dance. May be ballroom? Because we had a dance partner and didn't dance in a group...

Nope, but i’ve been to a country and western club that did square dancing occasionally. Square dancing is fun for people who feel like they can’t dance. It’s the original line dance. You just watch what everyone else is doing and try to keep time. Remember to smile and drink lots of water. It is a fairly energetic event.

We had to learn various traditional folk dances it was a like a cross between pride and prejudice meets the hobbits.

Was it clog dancing? That's a traditional folk dance in Wales, right? I know I'm probably wrong but I don't care.

That's basically our square dance, except we swap partners more often. It gets really hot and spicy!
