Why is my close friend hiding her younger sister from me?

i've been friends with this girl for 2 years , we would of first meet summer 2024 and never once has she or her girlfriend's mentioned that she has a younger sister. i've never seen them together and isn't even a picture of them on her social media at least pictures that i could view.

i found out that she had a sister after a read a news paper article about her mother and an obituary online that clear states there is 2 sisters and gives the younger sisters name. i looked online and could not find any accounts on sites facebook or instagram but is a tiktok page in her name and comments are from local accounts so definitely her

on the weekend i actually meet her inperson , it was weird i went into this chain restaurant and she was the hostess, i recognised her rate away as the same girl from tiktok page i saw. it also makes sense that she works at that place as her cousin in one of the bartenders. she didn't mention that she knew who i was or that i knew her older sister and i didn't say anything either but it was definitely the secret little sister.

now i don't know what to do , should i just ask the girl i'm friends with openly if she has a sister and see what she says? does she already know that i meet the sister at the restaurant so like secret isn't a secret anymore right?

i talked to her at her work , at first i sensed she was annoyed at me but then once i started to talk to her she seemed fine and we got along really well for a couple minutes but was at her work so could not talk to her forever. no mention of secret sister at all though and still not sure why

i just wondered who the sister was and why i had never heard about her before , she seems normal and everyone at restaurant seemed to like her and though she was doing a good job

Some people just don't talk about their siblings to other people. Or their family life, for that matter. It may never come in up a conversation. Anyways. If they wish to keep their family life private, respect their privacy.

but we live in a small town ( 20,000 ) would it be reasonable for her to keep this secret under those circumstances? in the past here anytime there was a sister its always clearly defined and well known , i can think of many sisters here and its very public and known to everyone there sisters

just seems like an odd secret in a small town and obviously i was going to find out about her eventually as we've been friends for 2 years and eventually the sister was going to make an appearance somewhere

maybe i should ask her if she wants to go to that chain restaurant , not as a date but as friends maybe or with other people we know and see what she says , does she admit sis works there or come up with an excuse to not go

She could have her own reasons for not mentioning her sister, who knows (besides them). You could also simply ask her about her siblings/family. "How are you? How are your family members doing?". Also if this is a "secret" she's trying to keep even if you go to that restaurant she might just pretend to not know her sister there. Only way to know her reasons is by a question. It's a pretty harmless question anyways. If she avoids it then of course drop it.

it just seems so weird in a small town , tried thinking and could not come up with any similar situations that i've ever encountered here. as said sisters have always been clearly definied and well known who they were , can think of many sister pairs who i meet or worked at restaurants here and its always been known and clearly stated they were such.

this is very weird that it was not clearly stated who this other person was , and that it was left for me to accidently meet them in a public space at there new job without the other sister present to do an introduction

i have no clue where to go next on this one , see if either talk to me about it when i see either next

i checked the tik tok account again its definitely the same girl i saw at restaurant and girl i know her account has commented on one of the new video's so its for sure the sister and they have the same last name. i've also never meet anyone else in this area with that name before

Usually within 2 years family members should come up unless they are a very private person. Well if you do end up going to that restaurant and then she introduces her sister to you I guess it's all good. But if she intentionally avoids her sister there she's just intentionally choosing not to talk about family to friends. And that's fine. People can have their reasons. If it's possible just pop the question ask her how her family members are doing. Gets all the misunderstanding out. And obviously if she's reluctant to talk about family do not pursue this and drop the matter unless you wanna lose that friend.

She might be protective, or worried you will find her sister more attractive, or simply trying to keep her family life separate.

i suppose , the younger sister didn't seem like the type who would drive guys crazy , the older sister does seem to generate more interest than average, she's like cute but not really hot

but she had to assume at some point i would meet the other sister , we all live in the same town and she works a job in a fairly common restaurant for people to go in here

but if i had not seen the tiktok account i would not of known what she looked like , would of only known there was a sister

i just wondered out of curiosity who the sister was as she lives locally in the same area , normally i find sisters are very well defined and its well known who has one here or not being that we live in a smaller city , can't really recall anything similar before occuring
