My friends party is tomorrow night and we all are planning on drinking.
Is it dangerous to drink alcohol when taking this medicine? The cough medicine is also alcohol free just so you know. Thanks.
If you're sick, you should probably go to a doctor instead of going out drinking to a party. You can drink hours after taking it, it's not dangerous, but that wasn't your initial question. You updated your question to that. People won't know what to answer until *after* they vote, so it will seem like you are baiting people into answering.
No, I just wasn't clear enough when I first asked the question. But thanks for answering :)
It Sounds like you Should really be Postponing the "Party" Plans Here, dear, and Instead.. Go see your doctor. You may have Something Catching, and You are Just "Masking" this Possible Problem.
Don't Mix anything, but if this 'Problem' Persists, go See the Doctor for a Real.. Fix that is not Vicks.
Good luck and Stay Home Alone. xx
I've drank Nyquil and whiskey together and robitussin and wine together. Not the best mix... Both of these will make you sleep HARD. Your liver will not be very happy, kidney failure happens too What is a girl to do when she is sick and needs to party?😂
I'm not planning on mixing it. I just want to know if its bad to drink alcohol after taking cough medicine hours earlier.
I assumed you weren't mixing it. I've never mixed, I was sick and went out drinking lol It's still bad on your liver and kidneys. If you take a large amount of robitussin, it will make you groggy, if you add drinking on top of that, you will have slurred speech and be incoherent quickly. You'll end up falling asleep. If it's like more than 6hrs and you drink after taking medicine, you should be fine. Just drink a lot of water.
Oh ok, I see. Thank you so much for answering :)
Don't do it!!! Cold medicine has acetaminophen in it (Tylenol) which is processed through the liver. Alcohol is also processed through the liver. It can damage the liver if you take both together. Please don't.
Not taking both together. Drinking them hours apart. Sorry for not being clear enough, but thanks for answering.
Still I wouldn't risk it. I would wait at least 8 hours between consuming one or the other. On the contrary, ibuprofen is processed through the kidneys so you could theoretically take ibuprofen and alcohol in quick succession.
Also, always be careful to not take cold medicine more often than prescribed. It can be a doozy on your liver.

I'm a med student and it's always bad to mix alcohol with cough medicine.
It will amplify the effects.
I apologize for not being clear enough. I'm not planning on mixing it. I want to know if its bad to take robitussin and then to drink alcohol HOURS later. Thanks for answering though. I appreciate it.
Oh well if it's 6-8 hours later you should be fine.
Oh ok. Thanks so much🙂
Just drink slowly and feel yourself out.
Just to be safe :)

Alcohol-free doesn't mean anything. Advil and Tylenol are alcohol-free too but their labels state that you shouldn't have more than 3 drinks when taking them.
Check the label of the bottle. If it says the same thing or something similar, you shouldn't be drinking while taking it.
Hours later? Like at least 16 hours later maybe yes. Not like 4 hours afterwards. Just don't take cough medicine on that day then. It's a choice.
I HAVE NO MEDICINE KNOWLEDGE, THIS IS ONLY MY EXPERIENCE, NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT MIGHT HAPPEN!
Well...
If you're that sick, do you really want to do that? It's not like the chance will never come along again in your lifetime. I wouldn't do it, personally.
Do what? Drink alcohol?
Yeah. There'll be plenty of opportunities when you're not feeling like this. You're between 18 and 24. I'm 44. Trust me. There will be chances again. :)
You should never mix any medicine with alcohol.
If you wanna drink, don't take any medicine tomorrow.
I'm not planning on mixing it
That's what your question is asking. If you drink alcohol after taking medicine, you're mixing them both.
Sorry for not being clear enough. I was trying to ask of it was bad to take them hours apart, not together. I would never mix them together, I know thats bad. Its just I've been drinking like 4-5 doses and don't know if it will do any damage if I drink alcohol later on. Thanks.
Yes , dangerous to mix alcohol with cough medicine and strep throats going around so just take precaution on what you do.
Here's a lesson I've learned in life:
If you have to question whether something is legal, safe, wise, etc... It probably isn't.
I would say, not to "party" unless you can drink very slowly and carefully
Sounds like you want some purple drank
stop taking medicine if you have to party
i'd opt not to
Not a good idea
