If I was to go to the theatre I would choose the balcony seats, but going to the cinema I wouldn't have a choice because it's a newish cinema, and I like to sit central, halfway up the seating, perhaps next to the aisle.

In cinema, I like to sit about halfway back, in the middle. Theater is similar, though I like to sit a little closer to the stage so that I can see the performers.

Me too, most of the times, because balcony is more expensive, but it's a nice view.

The question suggests cinema among others. I projected cinema. If we’re talking a stage theater, i prefer front row balcony or the same slightly forward center seats on ground floor.
The only cinema theater i’ve been in with a balcony was an attraction at Universal Studios Orlando.
