Hi there, new here. i'm looking for ideas on a wedding theme, my boyfriend and I don't exactly like the same stuff, any ideas on something unique?

We both like gaming, movies, series and anime just not the exact same ones. He wants a viking theme, and I wanted Lord of the Rings themed, so we agreed to come up with something we both could be into but it's hard when you're into different things. I would appreciate any ideas on a unique theme. Thanks all.

If you truly want it to be unique, make it your own, really nothing is off limits. There's no reason you couldn't create a meld of Viking and LOTR, especially since there are several common elements. You could incorporate ancient armor, weapons, and the table decorations and place settings could really be a great place to go wild and make it very unique. From wooden tankards to silver goblets, or both. Get a harpist to play at the reception?

For my wedding, we had a very unique time. We got married on a pier, and butterflies and a whale showed up! I rode down the pier to our guests on a white horse, then greeted the groomsmen and bridesmaids. Then my betrothed came down the pier to Goldfrapp's "Ohh La La". For the reception we had an outdoor barbeque, the wedding cake was a specialty cake we chose but we were concerned with if all our guests would like it, so it was placed on a tiered stack of 9 cheesecakes for variety. We had choreographed and practiced our first dance together, and we included me launching her into the air and assisting her in completing a backflip (not an easy task, especially in a wedding dress).

Late but let me just chime in: Your likes ate much closer than you might think!

Elves, dwarves and a bunch of other things are actually norse, viking, in origin. While Tolkien of course made his own version of it, a lot of it is actually just viking mythology. Norse, vikings, was probably the culture that most inspired lord of the rings. My point being: Merging them is not only sensible but actually entirely correct!

What is a fantasy viking setting? Pretty much Lotr! You are actually wanting more or less wanting the same thing.

Not knowing you two hard to come up with themes. Sure you gave a little insight into what you guys like. Can you do ceremony one theme and reception another. That way you each get what you want for part of the wedding. No need to mesh things together or find one thing to fit all. That could be a good compromise which is what ant good relationship should have. Congrats and have fun!

Why not hire out a castle for the big day? Loads of them cater for weddings and they're not that expensive. As for theming it that could make guests feel uncomfortable especially if a bunch of Vikings turn up raping and pillaging.

Lord of the rings and viking are Technologically not that far a part. If you just ignore Magic in Lord of the Rings, and limit the outfit styles as well as some of the stereotypes in Vikings It could pass as both.

In either case I'm not a big fan of big expensive weddings.
