Grown Women: Would you accept a Promise Ring?

Question

Ladies, would you accept a promise ring before an engagement ring.

I noticed there is a trend of Grown men giving women promise rings. (well only 2 people I know) and the ladies are extremely happy to receive them.

For some people may ask that isn't a promise ring something that teen boy gives to their teen girlfriend to show they love their girl but they are not ready for marriage?

Ladies on here, what would y’all say?

If it's given as a precursor to an engagement ring then no, it's utterly useless, that doesn't make any sense. You either want to get married or you don't. I feel like it's just a way to make a woman stay committed when she is ready for marriage but the guy is still unsure. It gives him even more time to figure out if he's ready. An engagement could last years as it is. I'm curious to see what the average timeline for promise rings will be if this becomes a thing.

But I could see why it would pacify women who want marriage. They will believe it's a step that shows more commitment than just boyfriend/girlfriend. Now I wonder if people are going to start saying they are promised.. I hope not.

If it is for a couple who have decided not to get married but plan to be commited to each other, then I can see them getting each other promise rings. I just wish they would rename it though. Sounds too high-schoolish.

Nope. I have no time to be playing "someday we'll get married" HS games. Promise rings are for teens that can't legally get married yet or for those keeping a woman in the girlfriend zone with empty promises. The only promise for commitment is already proposing or directly proceeding with the marriage paperworks. Besides I've already received my fiance's paperworks needed for our wedding. He has already booked his flight ticket and our wedding has been scheduled for Sept 20th.

My wife loves hers and I think it's showing commitment beyond the boyfriend and girlfriend and just being a couple. that phase seems to last for ages.

Girls like commitment and knowing he wants her and it's not just a fling or a short term dating thing!

Also they love gifts they can show off and brag about online!

"Promise" is a joke. I would be embarrassed to make such a proposal. That's like giving a woman an "I like you a lot" ring. Or, an "I am never going to make any commitment, but will you remain committed to me?" ring.

But some women would be happy to get rings for any reason as long as they were valuable.

No. How many rings is a guy supposed the get a girl for the promise of the promise to marry her (which at this pt has only a 50% chance of success)? Will there also be a prenup ring, an annulment ring, and so on?

I would accept a promise ring as an engagement ring. I like simple nothing over the top and I don't think it's right for the man to spend $2k or more for one ring and then get us an wedding ring that cost more. I love this promise ring 😍

I never understood that concept. “I promise one day I’ll marry you” 😕😕

Just stay in the relationship until you’re ready to pop the question. There’s nothing wrong with gifting jewelry, rings too. But it doesn’t have to be a promise ring. It can just be a ring because he chose to gift a ring.

It wouldn't bother me. But I'd prefer to put a ring on a necklace chain to wear it like that instead of on my finger. As my fingers are really skinny so it's hard to put rings on them in the first place (only my pointer finger can wear a ring). Plus, I wash my hands a lot so around the neck would be a better place for it anyway.

I actually think the idea is very cute, I would've totally gotten one back in highschool... but that's the thing, it feels a little juvenile and reminds me of catholic school for some reason. I'd perfer to just get an engagement ring.

A promise ring isn't for when "oh I want to get married but not yet, please waste more time on me!" A promise ring is for a relationship where they are abstinent and commited, but only can't be married because the factors of age. An adult shouldn't be waiting long enough to get married to warrant a promise ring.

I’d agree to it if she were interested though….. Not interested. My “promise” was when I proposed to be her girlfriend and the real promise ring will be an engagement ring for marriage when the moment is right.
