Im sure there are a lot if countries in Asia with the mind set of what you must have before committing into a long term relationship. Gold is very common in Indian and Middle Eastern cultures and education level across the board. In the west the demand is a little different as living in a joined family structure is looked down upon so getting your own place is viewed as an almost must. Its more common across the world than you think.
