I'm meeting my nephew for the first time ( from my half brother) and it happened that he graduated from middle school so I thought of giving him a congratulation gift but I know nothing about him and his hobbies or if he already have that thing that I will give him or not... So any suggestions?

Isn't the gift for their son? You are overthinking. It's completely normal for you to ask them what he likes, whether he's 5 or 15.

Don't worry about this sort of thing. It's exhausting and unnecessary. I don't know how you were raised, but normal people don't take offense at such things.

I tend to overthink sometimes , especially when I'm not familiar with a person I'm dealing with that's why it took me year to open up to someone...
So it's not about them taking offense but not to bother or think of giving back or tell me not to give anything?

I don't know, now that I'm writing these thoughts it does sound ridiculous ..

If they are normal, they will think it's kind of you to think of him and will suggest something you can bring that is reasonable for your budget. If they take offense, then there's nothing you can do. They will always find something objectionable.
