The best gifts is suprising him in person. If you mean the best gift to bring him once you meet up with him, then it just depends on what he likes really. I'm assuming you know what he likes so just get him something small you think he will enjoy. You could also just take him to eat at a nice restaurant that serves whatever his favorite food is. I don't think most guys care that much about getting gifts.

Im currently saving up to see him next summer. I was thinking about giving him cake but he’s not a cake person. I was thinking of giving them clothes and shoes. I think that’s what he definitely wants.
