Installing the lighting for the new bathroom and was curious what type to use for the makeup vanity?

Are wall mounted sconces necessary or is just a counter top lighted mirror sufficient? Or is a recessed mirror with storage necessary?

My master bath has twin his and hers 60" vanities with plate glass mirrors that are about 5' X 4" mounted flat on the walls. Each mirror has a sort of antique looking fixture above it with 4 bulbs inside off white glass shades (?) I guess they're called. In addition to that there are 2 big can lights in the ceiling over the jacuzzi and a sealed ceiling fixture over the shower.

I tried "daylight" LED's at one point as I figured they would give the most natural sunlight look that would translate well to natural light. Yowza! Those 5,000 Kelvin bulbs lit up the bathroom but they really fucked with the paint color and every other color. That lasted about a week before I rolled it back to "soft white" light at 2,400 Kelvin. With all lights on the bathroom has about 10,000 lumens of photons from 10 bulbs bouncing around. But it's a pretty large room and the natural light is not great.

Yeah, I've got the recessed lighting in place with dimmable and adjustable kelvin LEDs. They are BRIGHT at 5k.

I've got a separate switch leg for some sconce lighting or one of those recessed cabinet/mirror. But I think those are bright white?

I would ask your wife (or partner) what they prefer for makeup. Honestly the best thing is one of those makeup mirrors that sit on the counter. They can be moved and have a light. They magnify your face as well so you get a better look at what you're doing.

They sell them most anywhere but I am sure that Amazon probably has them cheep. This way you can put whatever type of lighting you want or looks best without having to cater it to makeup alone.

So, I get the movable mirror is good for the detail work. What I'm wondering though is if wall mounted is needed then, and if it is, should it be bright white or more subdued light.

I just use one of those countertop mirrors that I described at desk in my dorm room. I use the same at home in my bedroom.

I share a bathroom with my younger brother when I am home for summers. He is still in high school at lives at home.

It is just easier to not clutter the bathroom with my stuff and also have peace and quiet to do qhat little makeup I do wear.

doubt you have a girl coming over, so... just get any that's easy to change for the lightbulbs
