Do you agree that people with strong opinions are the most annoying people on the planet?

People who just go on and on about a subject. I mean don't you just want to tell them to just shut the fuck up.

I make a sharp distinction between "strongly opinionated people" and "riders of hobby horses".

A hobby horse rider is someone who constantly turns discussions toward a particular topic. The conversation about that topic doesn't just emerge naturally. Instead, they are artificially inject it into conversations so they can talk about it again and again, like it's a hobby of theirs. It could be the religion lover who won't shut up about Jesus, the animal lover who won't shut up about their dogs, the music lover who won't shut up about their favorite musicians, the gossip lover who won't shut up about what so-and-so did, the hippie lover who won't shut up about acceptance and tranquility, etc. I find these riders of hobby horses so annoying that I have to fight the temptation to yank my hair and yell "aah! make it stop! make it stop!"

If there is any group of people that I dislike more than the riders of hobby horses it's people who seem like they have no principles or standards, who "don't judge" anything, and who are passionate about nothing but hedonistic pursuits and insisting that other people be just as unprincipled, standardless, and unpassionate about everything but hedonistic pursuits. "Not judging" is the only thing they have strong opinions about, and that makes them look empty-headed.

As for strongly opinionated people who don't ride hobby horses? I like 'em, as long as their passion does not transform into physical aggressiveness. In other words, if they allow other people to be strongly opinionated, then everything's fair and there's not much room for complaint.

Technically I thought that by "strong opinion" you meant the type of people who cling to a specific opinion they formed over time, and they're unwilling to even consider the fact that it's incorrect, despite any sort of evidence to the contrary. Now THAT really does piss me off. But I hate the people who state something, you make a response with questions and stuff, and they just ignore it. That is the worst.

If people didn't strongly believe in something where would we be? where would they be? you have stick to what you believe in and not let others sway you down the wrong path, i too have strong opinions and beliefs about how i want my life to be, what i don't want my life to be, i truly try to keep others to believe in themselves too and to not let others make them feel like they are inferior to them. O

f course i only say it on Facebook these days because if i tried to say it to people in person they usually look at me like "Who the fuck is she? why is she telling me this? why is she being so supportive and nice? GTFO! your just doing it to get something off me" *sigh* lol no... i was just simply trying to be supportive and instill some belief in themselves but they just take it as ether me being bossy or doing it for bad reasons. Some of us have to keep it strong because if we didn't the government would of put us in chains and enslaved us by now, of course were already slaves to them but without strong people this earth would of teared it's self apart, listen to people like this because they will say some interesting and wise things.

It depends on the context and how they present their opinions. If their opinion was asked for and they're actually knowledgable and really know what they're talking about and they present their opinion in a respectable manner, I find that attractive. However, if their opinion was uncalled for, they don't actually have a clue what they're talking about, they're generally rude or aggressive in how they present their arguments, or like you said, they don't know when to stop going on and on about something, that's a whole different story.

Oh my god, yes. And what's worse is when they strongly and passionately support their faulty opinion. When you know the answer to something and they keep on insisting. You drop the subject and they go back to it! It's not beneath me to ask them to just keep their mouth shut. I'd rather agree to disagree but they won't settle.

It really all depends on their delivery. Someone having an informed and passionate opinion about something is wonderful so long as they present their ideas in the right way.

Conversely, people who refuse to take a stand on certain issues can be even more infuriating than people who feel strongly about them. I guess I get irritated when people refuse to take a stand on certain things.

Not really, it generally means they are passionate. Non-passionate people are boring and lack a meaningful existence. They exist in a meandering sea of mediocrity never really caring about anything enough to have that kind of fire for something where they can't help but dive into it when it gets brought up.

I don't actually disagree with it. People with strong opinions are actually some of the smart and clever people. If They have got a strong opinion about something they feel the need to voice it. Okay what is irritating is that some people just go on talking about the same thing continously even when you tell them to shut up.

Do I think they are the most annoying? No. Being passionate about something and being an obnoxious twit about something are two different things. They dont necessarily come as a package deal.
