I think it's because they are predators. They hunt the meek creatures. They are silent, poisonous, having a colour like surroundings, achluophilic who loves to stay in dark (unlike us who are achluophobic). So, we don't share many good things and hence we hate them.

OH GOD! I was hoping for a beautiful snake not a scary lizard and anyways they are hunters of the nature, they are designed to hunt silently and they must look scary, gross and intimidating to keep other animals off their back.

It's the slit in there eye but it's not all reptiles and it dosnt mean anything about there personality

Have you seen a crested gecko? Those look innocent.

Because they don't have emotions like mammals.
